Montreux Cafe
The Brief:
Full identity system developed for Montreux Café, with the aim of increasing it's brand awareness. We have also incorporated a set of brand colours to help improve on the brand recognition of Montreux Café.
We've used a similar typeface to help bridge the transition of the rebrand, as well as keeping elements like the wheat symbol (as requested by the client), that was used to subtly frame the wordmark. By varying the thickness of the condensed typeface we are able to compact the wordmark as much as possible, yet maximising legibility.
For the online shop of Montreux Café, users will be able to rate, like and comment on the pastries, or share their recipes on facebook. The solution acts as a corporate website with blog and shopping cart integration and, based on the users' order history, the system would also be able to recommend new and similar pastries to the consumers. The comprehensive product gallery could be sorted into different categories, alphabetical order, most viewed and best sellers.

The Equalizer Magazine
Brief: The Equalizer Magazine is a quarterly magazine created by Equal Education (EE). EE is a community-based organisation operating out of the township of Khayelitsha, 30 KM outside of Cape Town. They are working to bring about quality and equality in the South African Education system.
The Equalizer is created for EE's members who are predominantly high school students from poor and working class areas. The magazine aims to educate students about their rights, the education system, and the progress of the various campaigns that they, through their membership with EE, are involved in.
This edition was launched on the day of a huge student march to parliament attended by 20 000 people. Envelopes containing the magazine and a badge were handed at out the train station before students went home.

From the Designer: 'I designed the cover of the third issue of the 'NICE Magazine' by Nicework (the company I work for). NICE Magazine is a free online magazine that showcases talented designers, illustrators and other extraordinary creatives. It is a continuation of the company culture and design-orienIts an online magazine (http://www.nicework.co.za/nice-magazine). Each issue is themed and his particular issues theme is 'tactile'.
I designed this geometric pattern, and engraved it into an old cross-section of a tree trunk. It is engraved 4mm deep which gives off a very nice tactile look and feel.'

Save Community
There's a lot of controversy surrounding the midseason benching of 'Community' at the moment. Being a big supporter of the show I'm a little shocked, but not as much as others. And some of these people are willing to take action, combining their passion for the show with their love for design to create some really fun graphics. Below are just three examples of the current campaign to keep the show on the air. The three where all designed by Jon Defreest and I love the effortless blend of vintage graphics with the characteristics of people on the show.

Dr. No Effects
Sometimes you find a piece of design where you go 'wow'. That's what I said when I came across the below illustrations, designed for vintage affect guitar pedals. The concept it a bit alien to me, but I can still appreciate good design when I see it. I adore the illustrative style, and the colour combinations seem perfect. Combine that with package design and I am blown away. More images can be found here.
Koala Ranch
I was searching for animal inspired packaging when I came across the illustrations seen below. I'm not entirely sure they fit within the realms of appropriate Body Shop visuals, but I can't deny the overall impact they have. Maybe it's the vector approach that first attracted me, but after looking at the minute detail and the composition that seems to flow effortlessly I can't help but be inspired.

Bearing in mind I am considering using animal imagery for my Body Shop brief, I thought I would do some research into the different ways animals can be utilized in package design. I am looking at the different types of illustration, colour schemes and compositional choices, as well as anything else that may inspire me. Below are just a few images I will use as a reference.

Goran
Sometimes I just need to look at a designers work and be inspired for no other reason. I found 'Goran' and felt instantly better. His work is colourful, vectorised and fun. That's what I want my work to be. And it will.
The Body Shop
This is an interesting response to the brief, perhaps I could take inspiration from this and create something as memorable and different.
The Body Shop
I came across the below piece of design in relation to 'The Body Shop' and thought the idea was fantastic. I like the message communicated and the aesthetics that accompany the message are dead on. From the choice of stock to the use of green as the sole colour, the product works really well. However, it may be slightly cliched. There seems to be a formula of off-white stock usage and earthy tones that's used very often. I need to create visuals that appear in line with this visual approach but stand out in their own way.
